U/12Girls Gala Day @ Beaman Park - Saturday on 2nd May 2009

thumb_u12g.jpgOur U12Girls thought they might have a go at a Girls Gala Day in 2009, also hoping to see if we could win one & bring another trophy back to our club, so we entered Earlwood Wanders FC Girls Gala day held at Beaman Park on Saturday 2nd May. We got placed in Pool A with Earlwood, Lugarno & Canterbury (Us). In Pool B was Oatley, Concord & Coogee.

Our first game was a bit of a disaster, as our girls weren't used to playing on a half field with 8 players aside (we play 11 aside on a full field normally). We played against Earlwood & lost 0-3. It didn't help either that our game was cut short by 6 minutes due to a timekeeping error, but we took the loss anyway. In our second game our girls pulled together & played a much better game on the half field which they came away with a good win against Lugarno winning 2-0.

In between our 2nd & 3rd game of the Gala Day, Earlwood Club had a few fun games & competitions on, which our girls really enjoyed. The first up was the team relays (four girls from each club, 6 clubs in total); our girls came 4th in the race, well done girls. Then they had Penalty shootouts which all girls at the gala day had a go at. The best scorer from each team went onto the next round where we had Chelsea from our team. She did well & finished in third place in the Penalty shootouts.

Then it was time for the semi finals, our Canterbury girls was up against Oatley who were Pool B winners. Our girls played a fantastic game, where they were playing some really good soccer, the passing & shooting skills was great & came away with a good win, winning 4-0.

Now the girls were in the Grand final & they were up against Earlwood again. All our girls were excited making it this far but nervous as well as they were playing Earlwood again after losing to them earlier in the day. The girls started this game strong & finished strong. It was a brilliant game to watch, the girls now were at the top of their game & playing great as a team, which they came out beating Earlwood 2-0 to take out the Grand Final. Earlwood was not too happy to get beaten but both teams played a hard fought game. Congratulations & well done to our U12 Girls -1 team who won the EWFC Girls Gala Day Trophy. All the girls received an individual trophy also. What a great day & enjoyed by all the U12girls & parents.
